John Killion, a custodian at Doniphan-Trumbull Public School, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Cardinal Way Award for the 2023-2024 school year. The award recognizes a DT staff member who embodies the school's mission and values through outstanding work performance and dedication to serving students.
Numerous D-T Public School Community members nominated Killion for his unwavering commitment to D-T. As one nominator stated, "He is the eyes and ears of the school, continuously exceeding his workload while helping out wherever needed with a positive, calming attitude."
Despite his behind-the-scenes role, John has profoundly impacted campus life at D-T. Students regard him as a caring, trustworthy adult figure who goes above and beyond, even participating in school musicals and events like the Veteran's Day program.
"John is an unsung hero who never says no to a request for help, no matter how challenging," said a nominator. "He takes tremendous pride in his work and DT, serving as an exceptional role model and mentor to our students daily."
Nominators praised Killion’s exceptional work ethic, problem-solving skills, and embodiment of D-T's mission through his dependability and compassion for the school community.
"Students and staff see that John cares deeply about every one of them," one nominator wrote. "We are fortunate to have such a committed, hardworking employee at DT."
Killion was honored at the district's annual Years of Service ceremony on May 23rd. He joins a prestigious group of past recipients selected for their outstanding contributions to the D-T community.
