Summer Food for Kids Available in Nearby Schools
Thursday, May 30, 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am writing to let you know about an important resource available this summer to help ensure your children have access to healthy meals. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free meals to children 18 years and younger when school is out for the summer.
While Doniphan-Trumbull Public School will not be serving as a summer meal site this year, there are several locations in neighboring districts that will be offering the SFSP. Enclosed with this letter is a list of the nearest summer meal sites, including addresses, meal times, and dates of operation.
The summer meals are absolutely free to all children 18 and under, with no registration, income requirements, or other qualifications required. Kids and teens can simply show up during the listed meal times to receive their free breakfast, lunch, snack, or dinner, as applicable by the site.
I encourage you to take advantage of this valuable program if needed to help keep your children well-nourished all summer long. Nutritious meals are critical for learning, health, and development during the long summer vacation.
If you have any questions, feel free to call our school office at 402-845-2282 or contact Shawna Williams (swilliams@dtcardinals.org) or Trisha VanDiest (tvandiest@dtcardinals.org). You can also visit the program finder website at https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sitefinder or call the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE for locations near you.
Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Jeremy Braden
Superintendent
