Doniphan-Trumbull School Board Honors Student Leaders for Veterans Day Ceremony
Doniphan, NE - On December 13, 2023, the Doniphan-Trumbull School Board recognized the elementary student council leadership and student Veterans Day ceremony planning team for planning and executing a moving Veterans Day ceremony honoring community veterans. The ceremony occurred on November 10, 2023, at the Doniphan-Trumbull High School Gymnasium.
The Veterans Day Ceremony Planning Team, comprised of 7 elementary school students (Bentley Henderson, Elaina Deets, Drew Sullivan, Claire Johnson, Hadley Krueger, Madi Roach, and Addie Rainforth), organized the entire event under the guidance of student council advisor Mrs. Mindy Breckner. The ceremony included patriotic songs performed by the school choir, a flag ceremony by the Boy Scout Troop, a special presentation of the "Ragged Old Flag" poem read by fourth-grade student, Jaylee Hatt and D-T Custodian and Marine Veteran, John Killion, and a speech from guest veteran Chris Hochstetler.
"The student council leadership and their classmates did an exceptional job planning this event to honor veterans, it was a very moving ceremony and well planned," said Elementary Principal Rod Engel. We want to highlight the efforts of Jaylee and John Killion for their tremendous performance of the 'Ragged Old Flag' poem - it was a memorable part of the event,” added Mr. Engel. "The ceremony was extremely well organized, and brought our community together to recognize those who have served our country.," commented Superintendent Jeremy Braden.
The school board acknowledged the student planning team during their Committee on American Civics Meeting on December 13th. Later that evening during the Committee on American Civics meeting, the team and adults received special certificates and recognition for their work.
