Doniphan, NE (September 22, 2023) - This November, the residents of the Doniphan-Trumbull Public School District will vote on two propositions that aim to modernize and expand the district's outdated school facilities.
After a lengthy analysis and investigation, the D-T school board arrived at this proposed solution as the best way to meet the district's facility and infrastructure needs. According to Superintendent Jeremy Braden, "The addition and renovation plan is the lowest cost, most feasible, and flexible option to give our students the learning environment that meets a comprehensive list of needs. This includes safety additions and enhancements, provides a healthy environment, adds classrooms for enrollment and student program growth, gets classes out of closets, entryways, and modulars, and meets the needs of future sustainability and growth while remaining the community hub for Doniphan-Trumbull residents." These improvements, if the propositions pass, align with the mission statement of D-T where the aim is to serve every student with a quality education in a safe and positive learning environment.”
Proposition 1 proposes additions and renovations to the PreK-12 building at a cost not to exceed $22.8 million. If passed, this would be the first major building improvement in 40 years. The overall tax impact is considerably less than building new, while still solving the school's needs. Plans include eliminating modular classrooms, adding 19 new instructional spaces, updating performing arts classrooms and performance spaces, renovating HVAC and other major operational systems, and creating secure entrances and better traffic flow for student drop-off. These changes will address crowded conditions and create a healthier, safer learning environment for students and staff.
Proposition 2 would provide funding for a new competition gym and locker rooms at a cost not to exceed $9.3 million. This project can only move forward if Proposition 1 is approved by voters. The new gym will benefit both students and the broader Doniphan-Trumbull community by enabling more conference and district events to be hosted at the conveniently located school.
The district encourages all residents to learn the facts and ask questions to become informed voters. More information can be found on the bond website which will be live on Monday, September 25th, and upcoming town hall events and tours. Investing in our schools invests in the future of Doniphan-Trumbull. Check back to the bond website starting on Monday, as it will continue to be updated.
